Q:  What is the difference between Timo Vocabulary and Timo Stories?

Team Up with Timo: Stories is designed for children developmentally from late preschool to second grade who need to work on building story comprehension skills. This software program features six stories that use Narrative-Based Language Intervention (NBLI) to assist in literacy and language skill development.

Team Up with Timo: Vocabulary was created for children developmentally in grades K-4 who have hearing impairments and other speech and language delays. It helps pre-teach classroom vocabulary on a broad range of subjects covering 600 words in more than 120 lessons.

Q. Are Team Up With Timo programs theory and research-based?

Team Up With Timo products use 3-D animated agent (talking head) technology which was developed as a result of more than fifteen years of research specifically addressing the needs of speech and language learners.  The technology was extensively tested and proven effective for many category learners including special needs children with speech and hearing impairments and autism.  These products were developed with extensive guidance and input from educational specialists and speech and language pathologists.

The Team Up With Timo: Stories User’s Guide includes chapters on Educational Rationale, Teaching Strategies and Program Goals.  More than 60 academic references are cited.

The Team Up With Timo: Vocabulary User’s Guide also presents it Educational Methodology with explanations of the value of animated agents and the proven role of vocabulary in building oral language skills and vocabulary.

Q: What age group is served by Timo Vocabulary and Timo Stories?

Timo products are targeted to the developmental level of the child by the school grade equivalent rather than by age.

Team Up With Timo: Vocabulary, teaches word learning skills at the developmental K-4 grade levels. While its 600-word illustrated vocabulary ranges from "duckling" to "epidermis," the emphasis is on elementary school vocabulary. More advanced vocabulary word sets are in development and will be released in the near future.

Our reading comprehension product, Team Up With Timo: Stories, offers six stories aimed at the developmental levels of late pre-kindergarten to 3rd grade. The stories are straightforward and integrated with a series of questions and activities to evoke responses involving selection by clicking on the correct pictures associated with the story. There are two learning levels which may be selected for each story.  The product documentation provides details on the pedagogical differences.

Q: Which program is better for practicing speech?

Timo Vocabulary provides the capability to record a student’s speech and then play the recording back so the student’s speech can be compared directly with Timo’s pronunciation. Timo Stories does not offer a recording feature.
